DECEMBER NEWS
DECEMBER NEWS
Christmas is coming so all of the adverts on T.V. tell us, but here at Purlessence customers have been buying yarn for months furiously knitting, crocheting and sewing gifts for Christmas. Lots of ladies have been knitting like crazy with Scarf yarns. We have a great selection of scarf yarns i.e. Cancan/Cancan Glitz, Triana/Triana Lux, Cha Cha Cha, Ruffles, Starlights, Pompom, Shaggy, Tango Glitz, Rizos, Big Bamboo, Loopy, Mini Pompom, Romano Chunky and Garland. Our Ladies have not just been using Cancan/Cancan Glitz for scarves, they have also been making frilly handbags which look amazing and at £9.99 it’s great value for money especially as one of the main stores in the city are selling a very similar bag for £65.00!!!
We have just taken delivery of the following:
Rico Big Moment, a 200g ball with a massive 480m of yarn. It is 67% Acrylic/14% Wool/10% Polyester/9% Mohair and knits up lovely. Paula has knitted the Wrap knitting pattern for Big Moment that appeared in a recent Woman’s Weekly – it’s worth doing girls as you can wear the wrap in many ways - £14.50 per ball.
Adriafil Soffio Plus, a 50g ball that knits up to DK and which is 50% Acrylic/40% Mohair/10% Wool, a combination that is so soft and a joy to work with. We have ten colours: Pale Lemon, Black, Pale Blue, Navy, Pale Pink, Burgundy, Grey, Green, Cream and Purple. There is lots of yardage so it goes a long way – approximately 6 balls for a garment - £3.50 per ball.
Adriafil Zephir 50, a 100g ball of lovely Lace weight yarn with 1200metres of yarn to play with. It’s a 50% Wool/50% Acrylic mix in Burgundy, Blue, Cream and Green. Come on lads and lasses, time for some shawl knitting. You would easily get a shawl out of one ball and at £5.50 per ball – it’s a BARGAIN!!!!
King Cole Galaxy, a luscious 50g ball of yarn that has sequins sewn on to it. Both Dulcie and Paula have played and knitted hats with it (using less than one ball would you believe!!) and love it!! We have all of the colours including the new winter Red, Purple and Fuschia. £3.50 per ball.
Adriafil Kid Mohair, a luxury 50g ball with 230m. It is 80% Mohair/20% Nylon. Now ladies, if you love Kidsilk Haze, you will love this especially as it is only £5.50 per ball.
Sirdar Bohemia, an easy knit scarf yarn in 6 lovely colours. It is 66% acrylic and 34 % wool. 100g and 45m. Dulcie has knitted a scarf in this using 15mm and NOT 20mm as the pattern stated, she said it’s lovely to knit with and only takes a couple of hours to knit a scarf so instant gratification for just £8.50 per ball!!
New Patterns, we are constantly updating our patterns from Sirdar, King Cole, Stylecraft, UKHKA, Patons, Rico, Rowan and Adriafil. So whatever pattern you require, please call us and we are happy to post it to you and the same applies for yarn. If the yarn or pattern is in stock, we send it that day normally within a couple of hours of receiving your order thereby giving you a quick delivery.

Wednesday, 10 August 2011
May, June and July has been busy here at Purlessence. We’ve had lots of new luscious yarns, knitting patterns, needles, haberdashery, fat quarters and Jewellery come in and, go out just as quickly. Hence the reason Dulcie can be heard saying on a regular basis ‘But I only ordered that again last week, I order it in and you keep selling it” hmm! I thought that was the way it worked he he (See below for list of new stock that come in).
Dulcie and I made a foray up to Warwick for a Trade Knitting Show on May 14th run by the UKHKA to whom we should like to say a hearty Thank You for a wonderful day. We had attended the Knitting show ‘Stitches’ in Birmingham earlier in the year and expected it to be similar but how wrong we were. It was smaller and somewhat more ordered than the show in Birmingham. Not that we didn’t enjoy the Birmingham show, we did but, as all will probably agree, it does get a tad manic at times. We saw lots of all the lovely new yarns coming out throughout this year. The only problem I had was when I saw the yarns and was told it wouldn’t be out till September or October, it was agony. I, like most knitters want it NOW!!! Having to wait is not what I do best. After walking round all morning, we headed for lunch which we were told was a free buffet. I must admit, we were not expecting much in the food line as it was free but OMG it was lovely and again thanks UKHKA (take a look-see at their web site – it’s worth it). (http://www.ukhandknitting.com). The savouries were stunning but the real problem for me was the cakes or to be more specific ‘fresh cream cakes’ anyone who knows me knows I love ‘em together with my cup of tea. After half hour or so Dulcie stood up to go back into the show rooms and I said ‘do we have to move’ Dulcie asked why and I replied ‘come on, tea on tap and fresh cream cakes and its all free, I’ve done died and gone to heaven he he’. Dulcie and I had a great day and look forward to next year’s extravaganza.
I took Lyn and Trish (Trish is one of our new knitters who has quickly become a good friend to both me and all of the gals at Purlessence) to Cornwall last weekend and we had a blast. We stayed at my friend’s pub in St. Cleer called ‘The Market Inn’ ( http://www.themarketinnstcleer.co.uk/) where the food is superb thanks to Penny’s culinary skills and the welcome is superb from both Penny and Paul. The area is stunning and I recommend anyone to visit it, just because I’ve lived there for many years, does not mean I’m bias he he. I took the girls to Looe, Liskeard, Launceston, Minions which is at the top of Caradon Hill and we walked down Caradon Mines. I also took them to Trago Mills (http://www.trago.co.uk) just outside of Liskeard and boy did the girls have fun, mind I think their bank accounts suffered little!!!

SEWING BEE AND TEA
SEWING BEE AND TEA
The last Sewing Bee & Tea held a couple of weeks ago, was a roaring success. Carol, who runs our Patchwork Courses, was in attendance and a fountain of knowledge to all who not only had sewing problems but also what colours to go with what. Carol’s patience is endless as are her jokey comments that continuously make us smile. Carol Cooper bought her beautiful Baltimore Quilt that that she made some twenty years ago when living on the Isle of Wight. It took Carol four years to make and is still as gorgeous today as it was when made.
Chris, another regular attendee to our Sewing Bee & Tea bought her gorgeous Table Runner that she has been making from a pattern in primary colours with a black edging. It’s a wonderful mix of colours and we await the finished item.
Bronwyn who not only attends our Sewing Bee & Tea but also our Knit ‘N’ Natters, continued with her work on her Quilt As You Go Blocks – watch this space for the finished item.
Paula, who travels from Shirley to us bless her, did her first bit of Appliqué to add to her quilt that she began on Carol’s Patchwork Course.
Ann – A welcome newcomer to quilting, impressed us with her two blocks she made and the enthusiasm she exhibited when Carol was teaching her the Quilt As You Go theory.
Lyn began work on her lovely grandson Gabriel’s Quilt. It will be a plethora of colours and we wait with baited breath for the finished Quilt. If it’s anything like Lyn’s knitting, it will be wonderful!!!
Pauline who has been on two of our Patchwork courses, bought in her beautiful granddaughter ‘Daisy May’ who is twelve weeks old and a real cutie!!
TAKE NOTE – The next Sewing Bee and Tea will be on SATURDAY 20TH AUGUST 2011 – 1-3.30 - £2.50 is the fee includes drink, cake biscuits. Look forward to seeing you all!!!! Please note, this has been bought forward due to Bank Holiday Weekend.
Carol tells me that the girls at the last Sewing Bee have asked to do a Cathedral Window Wall Hanging occupying ten 9” blocks. She has therefore requested that all of you girls come with Ten 9” pre-cut blocks, folded in half and sewn down each short side in order that more can be achieved in the allotted time. However, if you are worried about cutting the material yourself, Carol is more than happy to help or do it for you. You do not of course have to do the wall hanging, you are welcome to bring whatever you want to work on and just sit, sew and chat.
There will be a Show and Tell so do bring along anything you have made or anything that is in progress.
After discussions with Dulcie, Carol and I, it was decided that after the Sewing Bee and Tea mentioned above, they will take place on the last Saturday of every month.
Happy Sewing Girls – We look forward to seeing you soon.
